Rockville Campus Council Communications Kit

Whether you are hosting an event, recruiting members for a club, or launching a new service or resource, sharing the information with your intended audience is crucial to your success.

This Communications Kit from the Rockville Campus Council collects all Montgomery College communications resources in a single place. This kit makes it simple for MC employees to effectively and professionally market their initiatives while remaining in compliance with established College standards.

Step 1: Determine Your Audience
Who you want to reach will affect many aspects of how you communicate. Are you speaking to students, faculty, staff, or community members? Maybe you need to reach an even more specific audience segment, like students on a particular campus or part-time faculty.
Step 2: Define the "Why"

It is not enough to tell your audience that you are offering something. You also need to explain why it should matter to them.

For example, rather than simply informing students that you're offering a workshop, you might explain that students should attend the workshop because they will learn skills that will help save them time on assignments. It may help to think about why you decided to offer the event, resource, service, or activity in the first place, or how it connects to the College's mission, vision, and values.

Step 3: Choose Your Channels

Next, you need to decide how to spread the word. MC has many communications channels. Which you select depends on your audience and message. For example, if you need to share a lot of details and text, you probably would not use a digital sign. If you want to reach alumni, the MyMC slider would not be the most strategic choice.

Explore the main communications channels at MC below. In most cases, the links will take you to details about the channel, including target audiences and how to submit a request.

Step 4: Create Your Content

In many cases, the Office of Communications or the Office of Information Technology can help you create your content. Details on how to place those requests are available through the links in step 3 above.

If you choose to create the content yourself, consider using the resources below to help ensure your content is compliant with the College's standards.
